Phoenix - Legion Redesign

Description

This is a redesign of Phoenix, with regards to the Legion of Superheroes. Done for the fifth challenge of the Project CBRunway competition.

The Costume

In the picture, from left to right:
Phoenix in her fiery form, Phoenix in her human form, and a hood down version.

The entire costume, sans the gold parts, are made from materials found in the 31st century, especially those cooked up by Braniac 5. The gold portions of the costume (including the belt and the flight ring) are made from a Valorium-gold alloy, which grants it the toughness and shine of both elements. This is why the gold portions are still visible when Phoenix is in her fiery form.

Costume Inspirations

When I was looking through pictures of the Legion, I realized that the prevalent style was a simple, two to three color, costume that involved some sort of stripe pattern, such as in Saturn Girl's costume:

So, I figured keeping that same sort of style, plus including the Legionnaire belt and flight ring, would easy make Phoenix appear to be part of the Legion.
Also, most, if not all, of the Legionnaires have a symbol associated with them, and that was easily reciprocated with the Phoenix emblem.

When I was designing the Phoenix elements, I felt she should have a large Phoenix emblem, something much more noticeable than the emblem from her green Phoenix costume. So I went with something a little more reminiscent of her red and gold Phoenix costume, which she wore during Cyclops' absence when he merged with Apocalypse. I also wanted her costume to reflect the dawning of a new era for Phoenix, something that screamed a fresh new, pure start. So I decided to use a white color scheme, with the black as the stripe-age, and the gold for the Phoenix and glove/boot parts.

When thinking about the "stuck in an alternate future" situation, I felt that Jean needed a more mysterious traveler feel, hence the addition of the hood. Plus the "bandage" like arms evoke a sense of hardship that Jean must have endured to reach such a point.

Plus the black head band is somewhat of a reference to Jean's long-lived blue and gold Jim Lee outfit.
